Client Relationship Management (CRM) requires a certain number of academic skills but also a lot of human qualities to be able to get the job done to the highest possible standards. When applying for an internship in this field, it is important to include as many of these skills and qualities as possible to convince your reader that you deserve the opportunity to gain invaluable work experience and an insight into the working world, in their company.

Strong people skills are above all vital in this role. As you will be the principal contact of key clients, it is vital that you include your ability to listen, respond accurately to a client’s needs whilst providing them with a sense of customer service and reassurance. On top of this, in your future role as an employee in the field you may also be required to manage a team, making these people skills all the more important.

Furthermore, showing your ability to take decisions and use your initiative in difficult and high-pressured situations will not fail to enhance your application.

Example of cover letter for an Internship in Client Relationship Management

Dear Hiring Manager,

I saw today on the Nottingham University website that you have a six-month internship opening at your organisation, so I am writing to you today to express my strong interest in filling this position. I am currently in my first year of my Business Studies and Public Relations degree and am looking to gain valuable on-the-job experience, in a prestigious company such as your own.

During my course we have done a lot of work on different aspects of this activity, including, market research, holding and participating in client meetings, using the necessary systems and software that are related to this profession, updating and using databases, analysis, creation of strategies and giving feedback. As you can see in my attached CV I have been recognised by the University for the work which I have done so far this year, regularly finishing in the top 3 percentile in tests and assignments.

I have excellent people skills and am able to forge strong and long lasting relationships with people; whilst also having outstanding communication skills, both verbally and written. I am highly passionate about this profession, which in turn gives me a high level of confidence when giving presentations and dealing with people. I am extremely organised with an excellent ability to multi-task without it affecting the quality of my work.

I have done some summer work with my family, who are sales people, where I was able to hone my negotiating skills. I strive to do the best I can and to make the person I am dealing with feel comfortable and as an individual. I treat everyone with empathy whilst also making sure that I follow the correct procedures necessary to make sure the job gets done. I work well in a team, but also excel working on my own and having to use my initiative. I thrive in high-pressure situations and always meet any deadlines I am set.

I am available at your convenience for further discussion about any role which you may have available for me and how I can be of benefit to your company. Please feel free to contact me if you require any further information. Thank you for taking the time to look over my application and I look forward to hearing from you soon.

Yours sincerely
