Before entering the working world in the field of events management, it is highly recommended to try and get some work experience in the sector, through an internship or temporary work placement. This will not only show that you are genuinely interested in this line of work, but also that you are motivated and willing to put in the time and energy to make it in this field.

When applying for a work placement, there are certain skills that a company will be looking for in an intern. Firstly, they will be looking for someone who can display the ability to remain calm and organised in high-pressure environments, whilst being able to maintain and work to deadlines. Furthermore, as the role requires the ability to oversee a number of different tasks and liaise with many different people and teams, then being able to show leadership qualities is also desirable in this cover letter.

Finally, any experience, voluntary or paid, in events will not fail to enhance a cover letter in the eyes of a recruiter and will show that an applicant is dedicated to making it in this line of work.

Example of cover letter for an Internship in Events Management

Dear Hiring Manager,

I am contacting you to express my strong interest in filling the 3-month internship that you have available at your company. I am currently in the first year of my Events management degree at Nottingham University and I must complete an internship to consolidate my learning from this year. I have researched your company and would relish the opportunity to work alongside your team, enhancing the skills that I have already and gaining many more valuable skills and knowledge through on-the-job experience.

During my studies so far I have done some voluntary work with the events planners at the university and have therefore gained some experience in events logistics, corporate hospitality, venue marketing whilst shadowing the person in charge of the budget. On top of this, I have learnt how to multi-task and be very organised, without it effecting the efficiency or quality of my work; these are key attributes that I believe make me a strong candidate to fill this position. You can see in further detail, through my attached CV, the different occasions that I have demonstrated these skills.

Thanks to my enthusiastic and driven personality, I am highly dedicated to achieving the client’s demands and helping them to hold the best event possible. Furthermore, I get great satisfaction when working in high pressure environments and hold outstanding problem solving skills and being able to use my initiative when called upon.

I am currently part of the team that is organising the end of year music festival at the university; I have become a valuable team member and have demonstrated leadership skills on numerous occasions. I know that given the chance to work in a progressive company, such as yours, will benefit me hugely for my future career in this field and also I know that I can make a positive contribution to your team throughout the training period.

I am available at your convenience for further discussion about any role which you may have available for me and how I can be of benefit to your company. Please feel free to contact me if you require any further information. Thank you for taking the time to look over my application and I look forward to hearing from you soon.

Yours sincerely
